Libido
Toño Jauregui

Libido came together in 1996 and decided to name itself after a song they had written. “We liked the concept in general. Libido is the energy that drives you to live and to stay alive, and all of that is related to sexuality as well. One can’t separate his or her sexuality from his or her persona.”

In 1997, they recorded their first album, Libido, and several of their songs became hits in Latin America. With Hembra, released in 2000, they won a number of awards, including Best Southwestern Band at the MTV Latin Awards, winning over the popular bands La Ley and Los Prisioneros. Pop*Porn, their 2003 release, produced by Duane Baron (Ozzy Ozbourne, Tracy Chapman) and Thom Russo (Juanes, Eric Clapton), also won an MTV Latin Award.

In the last 10 years, the rock scene in Perú has flourished. Artists such as 6 Voltios, TK, Paranoia and Pedro Suárez-Vértiz have become wildly popular, but Libido is still the darling of Peruvian rock. In fact, in 2004, Serpost (Servicios Postales del Perú) issued five stamps to honor Peruvian musicians, and Libido was on the list, next to Susana Baca, Eva Ayllón, Gian Marco and Juan Diego Flórez.

This summer, Libido released their fourth studio album, Lo Último que Hablé Ayer, where for the first time they incorporate folkloric elements from their country into their music.
