Biography

Camilo Sesto was born into a humble, Spanish family. His first steps as a singer came as he sang for the chorus during his school years at Alcoy. But his real interest in music came at the age of 16.  During this time, he admired the singer, Joselito, who was all over Spanish radio airwaves.  Camilo played in a band called Los Botines, who were mostly influenced by the Beatles. After meeting producer Juan Pardo the artist decided to go solo.  His first release scored him the hit songs,  play buttonFresa salvaje and play buttonAlgo De Mi. By 1974 Sesto was known throughout Latin America. To take advantage of his popularity, the singer started touring South America and the U.S., winning acclaim everywhere. Camilo Sesto's career climax came while playing a main role in the Spanish version of Jesus Christ Superstar in 1975. Three years later, his song "play buttonEl Amor De Mi Vida became one of his major hits. Sesto announced his retirement unexpectedly in 1985, giving rise to speculations about his reasons for leaving an impressive career. To this day, Camilo Sesto has sold more than 120 million albums worldwide.
