Biography
María Rodríguez was born on February 13th, 1978 in Cádiz, Spain. At the age of four she moved to Seville, where she grew up surrounded by art, music and dance. In Seville, “La Mala” forged her rap style and formed a duo with “El Cuervo” (from the group QMJ), with whom she created a five-song EP and performed at several concerts.
At the age of 19, she moved to Madrid and began a partnership with the label Zona Bruta. She recorded her first tracks,
A Jierro and
Toma la Traca with producer Sr. Tcee and recorded
Yo Marco el Minuto in 1999 with Dive Dibosso and
Tambalea.
In 2000, Rodríguez released her first LP titled Lujo Ibérico, on the Superego record label as well as the multi-national Universal Music. After selling 50,000 copies, she earned her first gold certification.
Rodríguez’s third album, Alevosia, was released in 2003 under the Universal label, with Superego manager Sergio Aguilar Pereira serving as executive producer. The album was mixed in New York and marked a new step in María’s career. This album also received a gold certification.
In 2006, Rodríguez released the maxi-single
Por La Noche containing three versions of the title track with instrumentation by Supernafamacho. The first version features vocals by “La Mala” and appears on the original soundtrack for the film, Yo Soy la Juani. The second version of “Por la noche” features Capaz (from Hablando en plata), Tote King and Juaninacka. The third version features Meko and Arianna Puello. The maxi-single peaked at number one on the charts in a matter of days. The music video for

In 2007, Rodríguez recorded the song “Mala Suerta con El 13”, featuring the Puerto Rican MC “Residente Calle 13.” That same year, she released her album Malamarismo on which she collaborated with Julieta Venegas, Tego Calderón and Raimundo Amador.
