A New Generation of Casanovas
by Elena Álvarez-Ramírez
MAY 2007
At only 21 years of age, this darling duo from NY is sweeping countless hearts with their tender bachata songs. Their lyrics are romantic and written by them; their music is a transcendental blend of traditional bachata with the smoothness of American R&B. They are Danny “D” Mejía and Steve “Styles” Tejada of Xtreme. Born and raised in the
Their newest album, Haciendo Historia, features seventeen tracks of R&B and bachata in English and Spanish. Their first single from the album, “Shorty Shorty,” has been topping the charts since its release. It’s a sweet melodic Spanglish bachata about a guy declaring his love to a girl whom he affectionately refers to as “Shorty Shorty.”
Amazingly, this duo did not grow up singing or playing any instruments; their talent was discovered during their teenage years. Lucky for the world, they’ve been discovered at a young age, allowing us to enjoy their romantic sounds for decades to come.

Styles: My sister got me into it. She knew I could sing and I like bachata because it’s romantic and from my country, the
Did you grow up listening to bachata?
S: I listened to everything.
D: I listened to a lot of Latin music…too much!
Does this CD have songs from the first?
S: Yes, “Honey I Do.” It hit #1 in
Will you do more English R&B?
S: Definitely. We’re working on it right now, trying to do a couple of English songs with some featured artists. “The Way I Feel” is a romantic, slow-jam R&B and that one is completely in English. “Adonde Se Fue” is a little Spanglish and it’s the R&B version of the bachata one.
Are you both single?
D&S: Yes.
Have you ever fallen for the same girl?
S: Nah, nah…(laughs).
D: (Laughs) of course not… no!
What would you do to win a girl’s heart?
D: Anything it takes; flowers, teddy bears, una caricia.
S: Whatever it takes, but it depends how she’s approaching you. How hard she’s playing.
Maybe sing to her?
D&S: Oh, definitely!!
If you wouldn’t have become singers, what would you be doing?
S: I wanted to be a fireman when I was little.
D: I don’t know, I never thought of it. I’d probably be working construction.
