A Poet’s Path - Jeremías gets personal

In the bible, Jeremías (Jeremiah) is the name of the prophet sent by God to take His message to Earth. Today the name belongs to an artist who, with his pen and guitar, takes his fresh and profound message everywhere he goes.
Initially he wanted to write songs for others, but destiny had other plans and Jeremías ended up a singer-songwriter. His career has developed slowly but he’s been blessed with lots of patience; he’s been passionate about writing songs since he was a boy.
What is the Jeremías the public doesn’t know like?
I’m the same person everywhere: here talking to you, at home reading, at the beach…I’m the same person talking to the media and the same person while I’m at home as a hermit.
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Totally a night owl, although now that I’m becoming more of a morning person, I’m living a healthier life. My life is quieter now than it was when I lived in Madrid or Caracas, where I would spend the night reading or writing songs…
How would your friends describe you?
I’m shy and daring. I’m kind of a hermit but at the same time there’s a part of me that’s bubbly and laughs a lot. It’s something I can’t control, and sometimes my friends want me to be the life of the party and that part of me doesn’t come out just like that…
What’s the first thing you notice in a girl?
Everything. I’m an expert at scanning a girl from top to bottom. Everyone has a particular charm. It could be the smile, the eyes, the breasts, which is the first thing your eyes go to. Some women radiate a certain tenderness or happiness, and that’s the kind of thing that attracts you more than the physical traits.
Are you afraid of the sacrifices you’d have to make because of fame?
Yes, I have thought about that. That’s why I wanted to be a composer, not a singer-songwriter. It’s almost like selling your soul to the devil. But it’s the path I’ve chosen and I have to look at it with love, look at the positive side.
What inspires you to write your songs?
I write songs to explore my emotions and ideas, and to communicate with others. I don’t go searching for a song, because I’d rather not say anything at all than say something that doesn’t come out naturally.
Is there a song you like best?
“Sin Despedirte” is a song about the speed in which we live our lives. We are here for a short while and sometimes we postpone our dreams and then one day we end up dead on a highway and you learn a lesson.
If you could live your life all over again, what would you change?
Absolutely nothing. I think every mistake I have made was heaven-sent. You learn from your mistakes. If I make the same mistake twice it’s because I didn’t learn the lesson the first time around and life is giving me the opportunity to learn it again. I’m very happy, especially of all the mistakes.
