The Colombian sonero band Sonora Carruseles has recently released their seventh album, Somos Los Duros de la Salsa. The album features new material but fails to create a fresh sound. Famous for such hits as “Micaela” and “Ave María Lola,” the new album’s sound is very similar to much of their previous work, with several high-speed tracks and their signature boogaloo sound in “Boogaloo Chévere.” They have incorporated some electric guitar on the first track, “Mi Verdadero Son,” which really makes for an interesting sound … until you listen to the song several times to decide whether is was a wise move or a disaster. Overall, the album is best for whom the artists intended: dancers.
