If the apocalyptic Gladiator-esque imagery on the packaging doesn’t say that this is an epic album, the music inside will. Don Omar’s sophomore album is a significant feat in reggaetón. You can see, hear, and feel the extra effort that was put into breaking the mold that reggaetón has used for the past three years or more. Omar manages to do this with a variety of musical nuances added to the reggaetón on the record. He does what Poison did for corporate rock by bringing the almighty commercial power ballad to reggaetón. Collaborations include renowned violinist Miri Ben-Ari, Juelz Santana, Mackie Ranks, Beenie Man and Zion. The track list is a bit on the heavy side with 18 ambitious pieces, but it’s a risk that only Don Omar can take. The first 10 tracks alone would have made for a memorable album. There are a few overzealous tracks that sounded like they were over-thought but they don’t overshadow the very long list of future hit singles. “Angelito,” is the first single to hit the ground running and it’s owning the summer charts.
