After the breakup of his band Los Rodríguez, Andrés Calamaro chose the less-traveled road of composition and in the last decade recorded various albums in styles as diverse as rock, tango and even popular music. He toured with Bob Dylan, released a five-CD album (El Salmón), and became a highly respected musician on both sides of the Atlantic.
La Lengua Popular is a magisterial album where Calamaro takes us for a ride through a wide range of genres, from rock (“Los Chicos” and “Sexy y Barrigón”) to soft and melodic (“Carnaval de Brasil” and “Soy Tuyo”) to pop (“Mi Gin Tonic” and “Mi Cobain”), among others.
Whoever enjoys listening to good music, without being stuck to a particular genre or predetermined labels, would realize that this album—perfectly performed with lyrics that go from poetic to sarcastic—is a jewel to be treasured.
